Mushroom Farro Soup {oil-free} + How to Make Homemade Stock // Crossroads by Tal Ronnen Cookbook Review sweetsimplevegan.comMy first time adding farro to soup, let alone trying farro, and I was quite surprised by how much it brings to the dish. Not only does it create heartiness and comfort, it also brings new dimensions of flavor, texture, and satisfaction. If you are seeking a gluten-free alternative, simply sub in a gluten-free grain, such as brown rice, millet or even gluten-free oats. This dish is easy, jam packed with flavor thanks to the homemade stock (recipe below), and brings to the table a plethora of vitamins and minerals to bump up the nutrient content in your next meal. Breakfast, lunch or dinner? I enjoyed these leftovers at all three, and would say it is the perfect fit for them all, as it is that good. Mushroom Farro Soup {oil-free} + How to Make Homemade Stock // Crossroads by Tal Ronnen Cookbook Review sweetsimplevegan.comIf you're in or have ever visited Los Angeles and have been well immersed in the vegan restaurant scene, then you would have had to visit Crossroad's Kitchen in West Hollywood. They are now serving brunch 7 days a week...I know, WHAT! I have visited the restaurant several times for brunch and dinner, and all of the food is always not only well presented but absolutely delicious. The food is served tapas style, or in small dishes and sizes, great to be able to order a plethora of dishes during your visit to get a more extensive taste of the menu. The only downfall to the menu, in my opinion, is their declination of substitutions or adjustments. Most other vegan restaurants in LA accommodate for the oil-free preference one may have,  and I wish that Crossroads was able to do the same as it could easily be done in a handful of dishes. Fortunately, this cookbook includes

This year was our first Christmas together, spent here in Los Angeles. Chris moved here a few months back in October, and what an experience it has been having him here. The connection we have made in such a short amount of time is one is something I have never experienced before, we resonate on so many different levels and I am so happy to have him here by my side to help me grow as both a person and a blogger <3 I was nervous for this holiday as I wanted my gifts for him to be perfect, and I think I nailed it...I hope :p I tried to get him a little something for every aspect of his life, and I think that these gifts would also be great for any of you looking to get your loved one a little somethin' as well :)christmas ssv

This month I was given the opportunity to review a Vegan Cuts Beauty Box, and I decided to have a bit of fun with it and do a video unboxing (below), and even have my boyfriend's help in trying out all of the products. He did my makeup and, well, let's just say that won't be happening ever again... I am not a beauty guru/blogger, and I am not well versed in the realm of make up, so this box was perfect for me in that I was able to try out sample sizes of all that was included. One of the reasons why I am not so into purchasing and trying out new vegan beauty products, especially make up, is that I do not want to spend a whole lot on full sized products that I'm not sure I will love or use often. I definitely recommend the beauty box to those in the same shoes as me, or even those who are skilled in make up but want to save a few bucks. Even if it's a one month purchase and not a recurring subscription that you go for, do it!

Every Fall, the Bautista Family Date Farm in California restocks their much anticipated seven varieties of dates on their website, 7hotdates.com, and those who frequent their products, especially those part of the vegan/raw vegan community, rejoice! Or at least I do :p This year, my first ordered (this will definitely not be my last) was a "Royal Treatment" date sampler and a large box of medjool dates. All of their dates are fresh, organic, and local to my area.

Although there are a lot of brands and products included in this post, I want to ensure you all that this post is not sponsored, and all of the opinions shared are my own. It has taken me quite a while to round up these products, I am constantly coming across new vegan, natural, minimal ingredient brands to try out, and more often than not I am finding myself loving each one! I decided that I would list the ingredients on this post as well. I know that it may get a bit wordy, but it is always convenient to have all of the information archived into one in order for you to assess them alongside one another :) *Truly Organic ingredients will be up soon!

The Easiest Way to Open & Clean A Pumpkin: The Coco Jack!Soooo this happened. The Coco Jack crew figured out that  you can easily open up a pumpkin AND scoop out the pulp with The Coco Jack and scoop! When I tried it out, I had it all done in about 2-3 minutes, and it saved me a lot of mess. My family and I have a huge pumpkin carving party every year at my home, and the last few years I have dreaded carving because of the very task of cleaning the dang pumpkins! My hands turn orange, it gets all up in my nails, and all over my clothes no matter how hard I try to avoid it. I don't know if I am doing something wrong, but regardless, it is a challenge for me. This is going to be perfect for pumpkin carving party this year, and it also inspired me to prepare more recipes with fresh pumpkin!
