Vegan Kare Kare (Filipino Peanut Stew) + Bagoong What a lot of my readers, and people in general don't know is that one side of my family originated from the Philippines, and the other from Ecuador. Although I am not filipino in blood, I grew up with the culture. I grew up with only tidbits of the language, but with a majority of it's food, customs and mannerisms. One of my childhood memories with always be my Auntie Peachy's Kare Kare. I can picture her in my old kitchen with the giant wok and wooden spoon, spending the afternoon in the kitchen just to give us kiddies a taste of her filipino specialty. She is the best filipino cook in my family, in my honest opinion, so she was the one person I was nervous to serve this version to, and the only reason why this made it to my blog was because I received her approval, and her  request for this recipe ;)

What a beautiful January day it was here in California last Saturday, 1/2/15. My friend Leanne Bishara and I got together to shoot a few photos for my blog that I will be sharing with you all today, some beautiful headshots out in the Arlington Garden in Pasadena, CA. I found out that Pasadena has a website dedicated to the garden, which you can find here.

And above is the photo I have chosen to use for my headshot. I know it isn't a typical minimalistic headshot photo, but I really think that its inclusion of a fruit tree embodies who I am.

After having some fun in the kitchen, Leanne Bishara  and I relocated to Arlington Garden in Pasadena, CA. We both had never been to the location, and we did not know what to expect, but it was the PERFECT location.

A few weeks ago I was given the opportunity to sample and review Fresh N' Lean meals for my readers here on my blog and Instagram, and now I am ready to share! First off, all of the opinions shared are my own, and I would only share if I really truly enjoyed Fresh N' Lean, which I can assure you, I DID!

Fresh N' Lean is a vegan meal delivery service that provides organic, vegan, low-sodium, low-fat, and preservtive-free breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Everything is made to order and ALL of their meals are nutrient-rich using locally sourced, in-season produce. They are made in Chino Hills, not too far from my home in Los Angeles. What I love the most is that they use minimal oil and salt. In taste testing 5 different meals with my family ,whom I should add are not vegan, and are in fact eat eaters that eat a more healthy version of a standard american diet, loved them. My mom and I even fought over who would eat what for work lunches, haha! My parents agrees that no additional seasonings were needed.  I was only able to try savory lunch/dinner dishes from Fresh N' Lean, but with my experience, I would assume that their breakfasts would be just as delicious and satisfying. Here are two shows of what I had at home:

Easy Vegan Superfood Hot Chocolate Okay so it's not exactly hot chocolate weather here in Los Angeles (it is currently 80F and sunny), but I know a lot of my readers are from colder areas, props to you all I don't know if I could survive! When I was living with my grandmother growing up, on New Year's Eve, she made my family her famous cinnamon hot chocolate. She would melt a big chunk of Mexican Chocolate with whole milk, cinnamon sticks and piloncillo. Man, was it tasty. But also, sooo not good for us. On New Year's Eve, my mom and I thought it would be fun to create a new, healthy and vegan hot chocolate recipe for the years to come. What I came up with was this superfood hot chocolate, a recipe that is definitely here to stay. 3Easy Vegan Cinnamon Hot Chocolate

Axiology Natural Organic LipstickA few weeks ago, I received a Christmas present from my friend Ericka Rodriguez. She sent me a vegan lipstick from her line, Axiology Natural Organic Lipstick, in the color "Elusive", which is one shade above the darkest. You can see all of the shades here. I am so overwhelmingly pleased with this lipstick that I decided I would do a blog post on it so that you all can consider giving these a try.

No Harsh Chemicals, No Animal Testing!

The ingredients are all natural, organic, vegan and most importantly, pronounceable. There are not random fillers, non-vegan coloring or harsh chemicals, and these babies are pigmented by fruit and other earth pigments, like avocado butter and orange oil. I will discuss the ingredients below :) IMG_1227
